Push Start

Hey everybody!

On Friday night Fairyfloss played at the Push Start Heat in Shepparton. It was an awesome night, everybody rocked out.

Big congratulations to our Jam It buddies Krank who won and The Shadow Puppets who were just awesome.

Thanks to everyone who came along and rocked out and cheered for us. It was awesome. Also thanks to Distortion for putting the event on and Rob Banks for some awesome sound.

In some sad news the UndeRAGE gig at the Yahoo bar next Sunday has been postponed. So that is sad. But we will let you know when it’s happening if it does go ahead some other time. So don’t stress.

Peace

Live at the Pool!!!

Hey guys,

A huge thanks to everyone who was at Live at the Pool to watch us and The Shadow Puppets. The crowd was awesome!

It was an awesome gig, the sound was awesome, the crowd was amazing and the bands rocked. I had heaps of fun on stage and just as much in the crowd watching some awesome bands. Krank really lifted tonight, you wouldn’t believe they were only a three piece; they sound massive. The Shadow Puppets really rocked as well, the crowd was awesome and that band really is just getting better all the time. And damn, it’s fun to play with them!

Star Assassin was very tight and some really awesome guitar stuff. The crowd really responded to them; they really did rock!

Also thanks to Tanya and Distortion for putting us on and a huge congratulation for putting on such an awesome event! The night went off.

Peace

Gigs!

Fairyfloss update!

Live at the Pool and The Bush Market are approaching quite quickly. For those of you who aren’t yet aware, Fairyfloss are playing at both of these events on Saturday the 24th of February (which is also the date of the second task of the Triwizard Tournament in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, but I’m sure you already knew that). We aren’t sure what time we will be playing at The Bush Markey, but if you just hang around the mall from 11.00am to 2.00pm you will be sure to catch a lot of really good music, and Fairyfloss will be on that list. As for Live at the Pool, we hit the stage at 6.00 and the gates open at 5.00, so get there early and have a swim.

Fairyfloss will be playing 2 completely different sets at both these events, so if you have nothing better to do that day, it’s worth coming to both.

Fairyfloss will be joined by Vito of The Shadow Puppets who will be playing second guitar, Rohan (formally of Fairyfloss, now of The Shadow Puppets) was going to play the second guitar, and was sounded great but unfortunately he has injured his finger at work and will not be able to play. So this has been causing both The Puppets and The Floss a great deal of extra stress. Seeing as now I have to teach Vito the 2nd guitar parts of 11 Fairyfloss songs and he has to teach me the 2nd guitar parts to 7 Shadow Puppet songs in only 1 week. Vito will be joining us at practice tomorrow, and hopefully it will sound good.

That’s about it… Please come to at least one of the gigs on Saturday.

Peace

I Think I Love You!!!

It has been quite a while since anything has been posted here hasn’t it?

Well, never fear because I am here to post a pointless blog for anyone who cares!

Let’s see… The gigs that were talked about in the last blog went OK. Could have been much better, but what do you expect. We ended up doing it as Fairyfloss because the songs ended up sounding much more like Fairyfloss then we thought they would. The songs went down okay and we will definitely be using some in the normal Fairyfloss setlist when (if) we play again.

And speaking of that, we have been quite busy recently with School production and exams so we haven’t practiced in quite a while but once Ben finishes school we will be having lots more practices and will work towards getting a setlist together for one of the summer gigs.

We might be playing a Sunday afternoon gig at the Queens Gardens on the 21st of January, but this is unconfirmed. We are also hoping to get on the bill for a Live At The Park, but that all depends on how practices go over the next few weeks.

And last thing, I would like to do a plug for Fairyfloss at Triple J Unearthed. Please go there and have a listen, write a review or just rate the songs. Would be much appreciated.

Testing, Attention Please

Well, time for an update on Fairyfloss:

It has been a slow couple of months for The Floss. We haven’t played together for a bit over a month now. I needed some time to clear my head and reassess where I was artistically but most importantly, I needed to break the writers block and write some songs.

Well, the writers block has been broken and I have a bunch of new songs (finally). These songs are more of the acoustic variety and are quite different to anything Fairyfloss has really done in the past.

James, Ben and I are getting back together Monday week and going to have a jam on these new songs and see what we end up with, we will then hopefully build a set totally out of these new songs and debut them at the St. Brendan’s Fete on the 12th of November. The plan at the moment is to do it under a different name as it won’t really be Fairyfloss, it will be a totally different project, just with the same musicians. But that’s just the plan at the moment; we will see how the practice goes in a couple of weeks.

Also I will be playing a song by myself at the Bridge’s AGM this coming Tuesday, I think I will be playing a new song so it will be a good chance to hear where The Floss (or above mentioned side project) may be heading. So if you are interested in checking it out come along to The Bridge next Tuesday night. I’m not sure what time, but I will put that up when I find out.

So that’s pretty much all the news from the Fairyfloss camp that I know of. Thanks for dropping by. Don’t forget to leave a comment or sign the guestbook if you haven’t yet.

Peace Out

Update!

Hey guys... Just a quick update!
Kools Skools is gonna be at school on the first day of term so have $10 ready to buy it because it is the greatest thing you will ever hear. I had another listen to The Floss' songs and they sound alright, some bits which aren't too great, but shit happens and they are still pretty good.

At the moment we are taking a break so that we can evaluate, change and come back bigger and better then before. We also are kinda forced to because Walters busted his fucking arm and can't play bass!

Anyhoo
Catch you guys later!

More Kool Skools!!!

Good evening guys and girls! Well this week was Kool Skools! A great time for all involved! As was posted last post, The Floss recorded two songs. We started recording at Studio 52 at about 10:00. We were in Studio B, which is the lesser of the two studios :( but we had Michael as our Producer :)  and he was very cool. He put in the extra effort and that more then makes up for being in the smaller studio.
The first song we recorded was Silenced. I went into the Isolation room with the very loud Marshall amp, got myself a good sound, Ben went into the drum room and set up the drums and James sat in the control room to play bass (and I heard it was quite difficult because when were trying to do takes people were in there talking and getting in his way... I don't know who you people are, but if I find out...)
We did a few takes of Silenced and eventually got one right. Then I went in to record the second guitar part. We had one drama with that, but we fluked a way around it and everything sounded ok. Then the vocals went in. Nothing much to that. Just had to sing. I will let you guys judge how that went because I always hate my voice.

Once we got Silenced down it was on to Hangin' On. For this song James and I both sat in the control room and I got my guitar sound through my POD. The sound was really tight and good. Not as big as the guitar sound in Silenced, but Hangin' On needs a tighter sound.
We got the bed of that down in about 3 takes then moved on to the lead guitar. We double tracked the solo and that sounded pretty cool. Very rough and patchy, but that's part of it's charm.
After recording the solo I went in to do Vocals... I think I did OK. But we will have to wait and see.

Then at the very end we went and added a reverse guitar to the intro of Silenced and then we were done.

That's it. I hope you all like the CD when it comes, I think you will. There are some great sounds on that thing!

Peace Out

The Band Fairyfloss

職業
Fairyfloss formed in February 2005 out of boredom. They had four members: James Clark (Lead guitar, Keyboards and Vox), Ash Beks(Drums, Percussion and Vox), Rohan Liebelt (Rhythm guitar) and James Walters (The Bass Player). Fairyfloss was founded by Beksy and Clarkey when their last band broke up, they recruited rhythm guitarist Rohan and bassist James and started writing songs that showed plenty of promise. It wasn't long before they were getting quite a few gigs in their local area, including Outta Limits and the high profile Live At The Park. Early this year Rohan and Beksy quit Fairyfloss, sighting differences in personalities and creative differences. Fairyfloss recruted drummer Ben and are back on their feet with heaps of new songs, some old favorites and lots of style.
